Tigers Triumph At Valley Park
The Welland Niagara Street Pharmacy/Gene's Skate Sharpening Tigers locked down first place in the Niagara District Atom Doherty standings with a 5-2 win over Stoney Creek on Saturday afternoon.
Brennen Hagar scored twice and Matteo Mete, Julian Belcastro and Colby Franchetti once each as the Tigers skated to their fourteenth consecutive victory in divisional play and improved their record to 20-2-3.
Deson Moriarity, fourth in league scoring, accounted for both Warriors goals.
Welland hosts Garden City at 6:50pm on Monday night before traveling to Virgil for a 7:10pm tilt against the second place Wolves.
The preliminary round of the Niagara District OMHA Playdowns takes place beginning on Friday in Stoney Creek and Glanbrook. Welland is scheduled to play at 10:30am and 2:30pm at Valley Park Arena on Friday and 10:30am and 2:00pm on Saturday at the Glanbrook Arena.
