"Cardiac Kids" Are Off To The Quarterfinals
The Welland Niagara Street Pharmacy/Gene's Skate Sharpening Tigers are definitely an exciting team to watch this season, sometimes a little too exciting as their nickname suggests. A big home crowd watched last night as the team overcame alot of adversity and a good Stoney Creek Warriors team to advance to the OMHA Major Atom A Quarterfinals with a thrilling 5-4 overtime win.

Townes Bestward has been on fire lately and he continued his strong play by putting the Tigers on the board only fifty-eight seconds after the opening faceoff. Stoney Creek would not go quietly, however, tying the game at one about two minutes later.

Things looked quite bleak for the Tigers in the second period as Stoney Creek jumped out to a 3-1 lead and centre Colby Franchetti went down with a buckle fracture. But as this team has done all season, they buckled down and Tanner Cutler would net a natural hat-trick in the game's final twenty-five minutes to tie the game and Townes Bestward would deposit his second of the game in overtime to write a different kind of script for this team.

Jonah Bello, moved up to forward when Franchetti went down contributed two assists as did defenceman Jordan Wright. Julian Belcastro, Carson McComber and Ashlyn Armstrong were also credited with helpers.

The Warriors scoring consisted of a pair of goals from Henry Allen and singles from Deson Moriarty and Luke Mahshie. Stoney Creek was 1-for-2 on the powerplay, Welland went 0-for-2.

The Tigers will now move on to face the winner of the Riverside/Erie-North Shore series with their six-point series beginning next weekend.
