Welland Battle Against 1st Place Haldimand
The Welland U14A Tigers took on the 1st Place Haldimand River Kings today in tough battle, looking to build off of two strong performances against Niagara Falls.

Welland played host to Haldimand this Saturday, looking to earn a big two points in a tight Niagara District loop.

The Tigers came out strong Saturday, battling on both ends of the ice through a back and forth 1st period. The River Kings struck first on a set play from an offensive zone faceoff, but Fortier from Hudak and Diomin tied the game with only 9 seconds left in the first frame. The second period had much of the same - chances going both ways with the River Kings striking again before the end of the period to take the lead, 2-1.

The third period saw the Tigers get into some penalty trouble once again, greatly reducing their offensive chances midway through the period, and eventually leading to an unlucky bounce that would give Haldimand a 3-1 lead late. The Tigers showed their resilience however, battling hard in the final minutes with a great goal by Rousseau with assists from Hudak and Levert. The push wasn't enough, as a 6th attacker and great pressure from the Tigers couldn't tie the game, ending in a 3-2 loss to the River Kings.

The Tigers leave Welland Main with their heads held high, as the foundations and systems are finally taking shape at the midway point of the season. Catch the Tigers this Tuesday as they take on the Glancaster Bombers away.
