Silver Stick Champions!!
The Welland Minor Atom “A” Shadow Auto Tigers won the Northumberland Regional Silver Stick tournament over the weekend.  The Tigers competed against some of the strongest teams from Eastern Ontario and persevered against all odds to bring the banner home to Welland.

Game 1 of round robin play pitted the Tigers against the Gloucester Orleans Blues whose sheer size would have been intimidating to the average Pee-Wee team. The Tigers fell in defeat 3-2 in a physical battle that left them battered and bruised.Filling the game sheet for the Tigers was Ethan Rousseau and Liam Seguin each with 1G. Thomas Russell was solid in goal for the Tigers.

The Tigers then faced off against the Ottawa West Golden Knights skating to a 5-0 victory. The Tigers dominated play in the opposition zone and Jackson Gallagher-Temple earned the shut out. The Tigers offence was led by Jordan Hotham with 2G, Dylan Wood, Kingsley Lachnit and Brayden Farr each with 1G, and Ethan Rousseau, Blake Hudak and Liam Seguin each collecting an assist.

Game 3 was an early morning contest against North Toronto and the Tigers were only able to solve the opposition net minder once even though they had many quality scoring chances. The game finished with a 1-1 score, Thomas Russell ensured the tie with timely saves. Ethan Rousseau scored for the Tigers.

The Tigers were faced with elimination in game 4 taking on the Kanata Blazers, the team favoured to win the tournament. Win and move on, lose and go home was the situation for both teams as each had already suffered a loss. The Tigers were ferocious on the back check eventually frustrating the Blazer’s high powered offence. When the final buzzer sounded, the Blazers were going home, falling 5-3. Jackson Gallagher-Temple earned the win for the Tigers and the offence was led by Ethan Rousseau with 1G and 1A, Dylan Wood, Kingsley Lachnit, Jordan Hotham and Liam Seguin each with 1G, Antonio Mete with 2A, and Cooper Ebert, Blake Hudak and Sebastien Boucher each with 1 helper.

The Tigers were off to the semi-finals with a chance at redemption against the Gloucester Orleans Blues. The Tigers were ready for the size and the strength of the Blues and used their speed to control play for most of the game. Welland filled the net 5 times while the Tiger’s tender Jackson Gallagher-Temple only allowed 2 against to propel the Tigers into the championship. The offence was led by Blake Hudak, Liam Seguin and Dylan Wood each with 1G and 1A, Sebastien Boucher and Ethan Rousseau with 1G, and assists from Antonio Mete, Hudson Bassi, Jordan Hotham, Kingsley Lachnit and Brody Channon.

The Championship Game was set, the Welland Tigers were to do battle against the Ottawa Sting for the right to hoist the banner in their respective rinks. The teams exchanged scoring opportunities throughout the game but it was the Tigers who emerged victorious, winning 4-2 with an empty netter. Jackson Gallagher-Temple was solid in goal for the Tigers.  Scoring for the Tigers was Ethan Rousseau with 2G and 1A, Dylan Wood with 1G and 2A, Antonio Mete with 1G and Kingsley Lachnit with 1A.
