Tigers Come Within A Whisker Of Advancing To Silver Stick Quarterfinals
Despite playing well, the Welland Niagara Street Pharmacy/Gene's Skate Sharpening Tigers failed to advance to the quarterfinal round at the International Silver Stick Championships in Sarnia, ON ending their bid to repeat as Champions.

The Tigers staged a late rally with goals from Julian Belcastro, Colby Franchetti and Mason Risto against the Littleton Hawks in their opening round-robin game early Friday morning but could not get the extra bounce they needed to complete the comeback, losing 4-3.

The Tigers then de-fanged the Westchester Vipers in a 7-2 rout with Tanner Cutler and Belcastro each netting two goals and Townes Bestward, Carson McComber and Hudson Kipp adding singles.

Welland nearly upset the 4th-ranked Woolwich Wildcats but had to settle for a 2-2 draw as Woolwich managed to tie the game with 1:56 remaining. Brennen Hagar and Carson McComber scored for the Tigers.

Welland returns to action tonight at 6:50pm against Fort Erie looking to build on their 11-game winning streak in league play. The Tigers currently lead the division with a 17-2-3 record and six games remaining on the schedule.

The Tigers prepare for a very busy week ahead, playing host to Glanbrook on Thursday at 7:20pm, visiting Stoney Creek on Saturday at 4:30pm and then hosting St. Catharines on Monday at 6:50pm before travelling to Niagara-on-the-Lake on Tuesday for a 7:10pm contest.
