Tigers Win Goaltender's Duel
The Welland 91.7 Giant FM/Country 89 Tigers edged the Dunnville Mudcats 2-1 in their first of two round-robin matchups as part of the Niagara District Peewee Belcot Pool A playoffs on Friday night in Welland.
True to form, the league's two best goaltenders with eight shutouts apiece, Tim Dolan and Braxton Fleguel, kept this a low-scoring affair.
Colby Franchetti opened the scoring at the eighty-seven second mark from Tanner Cutler and Miller Miotto and Owen Taylor responded, assisted by Aaron Ruigrok, with 2:41 left to play in the first as the teams were even through the first ten minutes of play.
After a scoreless second, Miller Miotto would record the game-winning goal with 12:16 remaining on assists from Chace Buti and Mason Risto to help the Tigers improve to 2-0 in this round of playoffs and 34-0-4 overall against Niagara-based teams.
Welland is back in action on Sunday afternoon against the Garden City Falcons at Seymour-Hannah with puck-drop scheduled for 3:30pm. The same two teams will then square off Wednesday night in Welland at 7:20pm.
