Tigers Reel Off Another Win Against Mudcats
The Welland 91.7 Giant FM/Country 89 Tigers reeled off another win in the Niagara District playoffs, netting a 5-0 shutout victory over the Dunnville Mudcats in minor peewee A pool competition on Saturday.
Colby Franchetti hauled in the biggest catch of the day, a hat-trick, and Tyler Laszlo and Julian Belcastro each added single tallies as Welland improved to 4-0 in round-robin action. Miller Miotto collected two assists and Matteo Mete, Lucas Nelson, Jared Duerden and Tanner Cutler were also credited with individual helpers as the Tigers turned in another terrific passing effort.
Riley Caron recorded his eighth whitewash of the season, tying him with teammate Braxton Fleguel and Dunnville's Tim Dolan for a share of the league lead.
Welland, now 37-0-4 against Niagara-based teams this season, and 43-7-10 overall, closes out the preliminary round of the playoffs with a road contest in Stoney Creek on Wednesday night at Valley Park Arena starting at 6:15pm, which is a preview of the Niagara District Championship series that will take place after March Break when these same two teams will meet in a best-of-three final.
