Tigers Advance To International Silver Stick Finals
Liam Pouliot earned the shutout, Daniel Legault netted a hat trick and
the Welland Mike Knapp Ford Tigers defeated the Pelham Panthers to
remain undefeated in minor midget A league play.
Mathew Brochu and Brodie Thoms rounded out the scoring for the Tigers who improved to 13-0.
Welland went 5-0 at a regional Silver Stick tournament in Cobourg to clinch a berth in the international Silver Stick championships taking place Jan. 14-17 in Newmarket. Noah Belanger, with two goals; and Legault found the back of the net in a 3-2 victory over Collingwood in the gold medal game, while Ardis Peterson, Belanger and Legault tallied for the Tigers in a 3-2 defeat of Ottawa West in the semifinals. Ty Stadnyk was between the pipes for the whitewash and Luc Grenier, Legault and Peterson scored in a 3-0 victory over Ajax in the opening game of pool play. Thoms, with two goals; and Legault provided the offence and Pouliot the defence in a 3-0 decision over Nepean, and Legault and Thoms, two goals apiece; and Belanger scored in a 5-4 win against Collingwood in Welland’s final preliminary-round game.
