Tigers Fly Business Class, Defeating Falcons and Bombers
Submitted By Justin Disher on Saturday, February 1, 2020
The Welland 91.7 Giant FM/Country 89 Tigers might not be named after things that take flight, but that is just what they did on Saturday, soaring into the Semi-finals with two impressive wins on the second day of the Niagara District OMHA Preliminaries.

Miller Miotto and Tanner Cutler scored twice each and single tallies were added by Hudson Kipp, Jordan Wright, and Mason Risto as Welland clipped the Falcons 7-1 during the morning skate. Cutler, Miotto and Colby Franchetti recorded two assists on the day as well and Jared Duerden, Jonah Bello, Chace Buti, Kipp and Julian Belcastro added single helpers as Welland took good advantage of their powerplay opportunities.

Owen Crabbe scored with the man-advantage to account for the lone Falcons tally, assisted by Lake McCardle and Hensley O'Hara.

The Tigers then dismantled the Bombers 5-0 in the matinee performance with Braxton Fleguel picking up his seventh shutout in league play and second of the weekend. Franchetti and Risto scored a pair each and Cutler rounded out the offence as Welland locked their place into Sunday's semi-finals. Franchetti, Kipp, Belcastro, Ashlyn Armstrong, Wright, Miotto and Cutler were all credited with single assists.

The 11:15am game between Welland and Stoney Creek on Sunday morning will decide who finishes atop the round-robin standings. A win would guarantee Welland 1st-place and they would play the number four seed at 6pm. A Stoney Creek victory would place the Tigers against the 3rd-seed at 4:30pm. Both semi-final games are taking place in the Welland Main Arena after the 1:30pm Welland Jr. Canadians Jr. B game against the Buffalo Regals.
