Terriers Bite Back Against Tigers
Every dog has its day. Sunday belonged to the Orillia Terriers who avenged Friday's 4-1 loss at the hands of the Welland 91.7 Giant FM/Country 89 Tigers (the only team to beat them this weekend) by defeating them 2-0 in the minor peewee A Semi-finals of the Northumberland Regional Silverstick Championship in Cobourg.

While Welland had a plethora of powerplay opportunities they simply were not able to execute and capitalize, going scoreless on all six chances, including a 5-on-3 advantage.

The Tigers only managed ten shots on Tyler Boycheff, who picked up his first of two shutouts on the day. Boycheff would also backstop the Terriers to a 4-0 victory over the Quinte West Hawks in the Championship game on Sunday afternoon.

Orillia terrorized the Tigers by blocking shots and intercepting passes throughout the 40-minute contest and made the most of its limited chances on offence.

Nolan Hutchinson would open the scoring just over five minutes into the game, and Jack Davidson added an insurance goal about a minute into the second period, with the Terriers able to thwart the Tigers counter-attack the rest of the way to victory.  Even six-on-three in the final two minutes, Welland struggled to maintain possession in the offensive zone with Orillia able to ice the puck on three occasions.

Jonah Bello, was one ray of sunshine for the Tigers on Sunday, earning the Coaches' player of the game honours for his creativity in generating some of the team's best scoring chances of the day.

Welland was able to defend their six minutes of infractions successfully, but its powerplay has been non-existent so far this season, an Achilles heel they are sure to work on going forward.

The Tigers return to league play, where they lead the Peewee Belcot division with a 13-0-2 record, with a home game versus the West Niagara Flying Aces on Wednesday night at the Welland Main Arena at 7:20pm.
