Tigers Triple Garden City
Submitted By Justin Disher on Sunday, October 27, 2019
The early season success of the Welland 91.7 Giant FM/Country 89 Tigers this season has been the result of a lot of hard work. Extra attention in practice on skating mechanics has allowed the team to outskate players that are often a year older and this trend continued on Saturday night in Merritton when the team defeated the Garden City Major AE squad by a 3-1 score.

While his name is not found in last evening's scoring summary, Carson McComber's hard work shooting pucks and passing with his older sibling in the backyard at home was evident in no fewer than three plays that ended up in the back of the Merritton net. Julian Belcastro scored twice and Miller Miotto recorded the other as the Tigers produced all of their offense in the second period. Officials credited Tanner Cutler, Miotto, Colby Franchetti and Ashlyn Armstrong with assists.

Jacob Jones (unassisted) provided the only rebuttal for the home side, breaking up Riley Caron's shutout bid, as he also scored in the middle stanza.

Both teams were 0-for-2 with the man-advantage.

With the victory, Welland improves to 5-0-1 in league play. They travel to Dunnville on Tuesday for a rematch with the Mudcats at 7:15pm before hosting the Glancaster Bombers at 7:20pm the following night.
