It was a night of firsts. First home game, first win of the pre-season, first shutout and a teamful of first stars as the Welland 91.7 Giant FM/Country 89 Tigers put in a fantastic team effort in defeating the Stoney Creek Warriors 4-0 on the back half of a midweek home-and-home set.
Tanner Cutler, Colby Franchetti, Carson McComber and Jonah Bello notching his first of the year provided more than enough offence for Braxton Fleguel to earn his first shutout as a Welland Tiger with a 15-save performance. Tyler Laszlo, Lucas Nelson, Miller Miotto, Julian Belcastro, Bello and McComber all chipped in assists as Welland improved to 1-1-4 in exhibition play.
Penalty killing was again perfect as the Warriors were held scoreless through eight minutes of the man-advantage, while Welland went 1-for-3 on the powerplay.
Welland is now idle until the start of the regular season, which is expected to begin some time next week.
