Tigers-Rangers Skate To Scoreless Draw
One could reasonably expect a low-scoring game when the Welland Telus Tigers and Glanbrook Rangers met in Stoney Creek on Sunday afternoon given that these two teams have given up the fewest goals against in Niagara District Peewee Doherty league play, however this was the first time all season that both teams were kept off the scoreboard as they skated to a scoreless draw.
Christian Manazzone, with his third shutout for the Rangers and Brandon Alexander with his seventh shutout in 2018 were both stellar in between the pipes. The tie keeps Welland's fourteen game undefeated streak alive as they head into the Christmas break with a share of first place and eight games remaining in their regular season.
The Tigers, now 12-2-6, will take part in the Pelham Regional Silver Stick Championships starting on Dec. 27th by squaring off against Grimsby at 8:15am in Port Colborne on Thursday followed by a 2:10pm game on their home ice against Milton that afternoon. Friday morning they will head to the Meridian Community Centre in Pelham to take on the Tillsonburg Tornadoes at 9:45am with a quarter-final match to be played either in Port Colborne or Pelham that afternoon once seedings from the preliminary round have been determined.
Regular season play for the Tigers will resume January 7th with a road game against the Niagara-on-the-Lake Wolves at 7:10pm in Virgil followed by a home contest against Grimsby at 7:20pm on January 9th.
