Tigers Claw Back Against Warriors, Grab Share Of First Place
The Welland Telus Tigers battled back to defeat the Stoney Creek Warriors 3-2 in Major Peewee A action on Wednesday night in Welland, joining them atop the division with 39 points after Welland's 26th game of the season.
Both teams battled through twenty-five scoreless minutes before Quinten Hemauer put the home side into the lead with a power-play marker only thirty seconds into the third period.
Stoney Creek's Joshua McNulty would answer back with a pair of goals, the first coming on the powerplay at the eleven-and-a-half minute mark and he would put the visitors ahead with eight minutes twenty seconds left to play.
Hemauer would bury his second of the night, also with the man-advantage, to put the Tigers even with five-and-a-half left to play before Eli Moormann netted the game-winner at even-strength a minute later.
Welland, at 16-3-7, has played one fewer game to date than Stoney Creek at 16-4-7 and the teams are 1-1-1 in the season series between the two clubs with Stoney Creek taking the first meeting 4-3 in October, the teams skating to a 2-2 draw in December and tonight's 3-2 Tigers victory. Welland has unplayed games against Lincoln and Grimsby remaining on their schedule however they are not likely to be played before Welland hosts the Major Peewee A Playdowns Feb. 1-3. Stoney Creek has one game remaining on their schedule against Pelham which will be played on Friday night.
