Tigers Are Finalists in The 32nd Annual Doug Robinson Tournament
The Welland Niagara Street Pharmacy Tigers came within a
whisker of capturing their second tournament championship of the season
at the 32nd Annual Doug Robinson tournament in Lincoln.
The Tigers battled back from two goals down to the host Lincoln Blades but the allowed the game-winning goal with just over two minutes to play. Nicolas DiPietro and Carter Kipp scored for Welland while Kian Bartkiw recorded a hat-trick for Lincoln.
Welland opened the tournament with a 6-1 victory over the South Muskoka Bears. Mitchell Tomaino netted two and Carter Risto, Mark Gibson, Carter Kipp and Nolan Hemauer each scored once. Alex Clayton scored for South Muskoka.
Next Welland tied Lincoln 4-4 with Gibson, Kaleb Séguin, Luca Giancola and Preston Wainwright providing the offence. Bartkiw scored three for Lincoln with Jason Christie recording the other.
Pelham would defeat the Tigers in their last preliminary game 5-3. Max Myers, Brandon Bernardi, Austin Wilson, Ian McQueen and Luke Breadner scored for the Panthers while Tomaino, Séguin and Wainwright responded for Welland.
In the Semifinal Welland edged South Muskoka 2-1 with Séguin and Kipp lighting the lamp. Gavin Caldwell had the Bears lone goal. In their return to league play the Tigers tied Niagara-on-the-Lake 3-3. Kaleb Séguin, Carter Kipp and Mitchell Tomaino scored for Welland. Logan Smythe with two and Dylan Price scored for the Wolves.
