OMHA Quarterfinal Series Comes To Welland Tied At One Game Apiece
Hard work has been the prescription for the recent success of the Welland Niagara Street Pharmacy Major Atom A Tigers.

The Tigers advanced in the Niagara District Preliminaries two weekends ago to face the Riverside Rangers this past weekend in the OMHA Quarterfinals which opened in Windsor. Riverside edged Welland 3-1 in the opening game of the series with Kaleb Seguin mounting the only Tigers offence however Welland evened the six-point series at two points apiece with a 3-2 win the following day. Nicolas DiPietro, Mitchell Tomaino and Mark Gibson scored in game two of the series, which now heads back to Welland for Game 3 on Friday at 7pm and Game 4 on Saturday at 2:10pm. Both games are being played in the Jack Ballantyne Youth Arena. Game 5, if needed would take place on Sunday in Windsor and Game 6 would be back in Welland on Monday at 6:50pm.

Prior to the playoffs Welland closed out their regular season with a 2-1 victory over Garden City and a 2-2 tie with Grimsby to finish 6th in the 11 team league with a 14-10-5 record. Gibson and Tomaino both scored against Garden City with David Pillar responding for the Falcons. Gibson and DiPietro would find the mesh against Grimsby.

During the Preliminaries which took place in Niagara Falls, round-robin play saw the Tigers defeat Glanbrook 3-2, tie Garden City 1-1, blank Fort Erie 3-0 and then lose to Grimsby 3-0. DiPietro had two goals and Tomaino a single tally against Glanbrook. Tomaino for Welland and Ty Kostyniuk for the Falcons traded goals in the Battle of Highway 406. Gibson, Isaac Khan and Carter Kipp found the twine in the whitewash of Fort Erie with Stanley Mannell notching the shutout.

The Tigers then edged Glanbrook 2-1 in the Semi-final with Gibson and Khan providing the scoring. Welland doubled Garden City 4-2 in the Championship game with two goals from Tomaino and singles from Seguin and DiPietro. Rhys Lagrotteria and Kostyniuk recorded the Falcons tallies.
