Back in our barn for our first matchup with Port Colborne #1 this season. The Black Knights took the ice today in a game with a fast skating Sailors squad and a giant of a net minder. Our answer between the pipes, Michael Snyder, earned his keep today as he was tested throughout the game... especially in the dying minutes of the 3rd period. Mike turned away a furious onslaught from the Port squad as they tried to tie the game... by flashing the glove and stretching his legs to the limit robbing the opposition forwards on several occassions to steal us the win. Kaden Falardeau hustled and gave his usual 110% as he forechecked, backchecked and caused general mayhem for the Port players. Kaden's work ethic at both ends of the rink earned him the Team Player Star today. Desmond Leavens keeps going and going like the energizer winger and is a beast along the boards. Desmond has also been going to the right spots in the offensive zone and was rewarded today with a sweet feed from Mackenzie Covey for his first of the season. Des was given the Smooth Moves Star for his positional prowess. Mackenzie Covey has kicked it into high gear lately and is winning races to the puck as well as being rock solid on the boards in our end setting up the breakout. Blake Silenzi continues to impress with his hard work and determination down low in the opposition zone and with his control in our end to start the play deep. Blake was given the Game Grinder Star once again for the moxy this kid shows every shift. Jordan Dekoe had her best game yet.. mixing it up along the boards and keeping the puck out of harms way in our end......and......no offsides! :) Jordan continues to improve and is catching on quickly to the fast pace and constantly changing situations during the game.. impressing this Coach and staff. Dylan Elsie also stepped it up a notch helping out in the defensive zone and worked the puck wide and deep into Port end including and nice razzle dazzle upstairs for a tally. Spencer Main had lots of looks at the net today and was a valuable asset in our end being the 3rd D when things got dicey much to our defenders relief. Trent Brogan once again showed his physical side including taking the Ref down, by accident, and when his mind is in it, is very hard to stop. Our rear guards Eric Edwards, Collin VanDongen, Grant Sinclair, Landon Pringle and Connor Wright had their hands full today defending against some Port forwards very determined to get to the net. Collin's speed in the corners and Eric's quickness on the turn kept the Port players off balance and always trying to catch up to the puck. Grant and Connor's strength in front of the net in our end and hard point shots in theirs kept the Port squad back pedalling for most of the game. Landon Pringle was solid on the blue today. Landon hustled back if the puck got by him, and didn't get drawn into the corners in our end. Sam Desormiers was close again today as he continues to play the front of the net and this Coach can sense one will find the twine soon. Today's game was a considerable bit different than the last one in that you guys wanted the win.... and it showed in the effort you put in at the rink today. The Sailors #1 are no slouch and they made you earn it... your determination was great to see. Great TEAM effort today from everyone!
