Game 15 Recap

Smooth Moves Star Kaden Falardeau (Right)
Game Grinder Star Michael Snyder (Left)

OUr rematch with Thorold #1 started out a very close game and we were in it till the 3rd period..... Collin VanDongen was up front today to step in for Mackenzie Covey who was away on family business. Collin skated hard and tracked down some very quick Thorold defence to try and force some turnovers in the Blackhawks zone. Jordan Dekoe was back in action along the boards fighting for puck possession and moving the puck out of our end against some fiesty forwards from Thorold. Dylan Elsie was rested and came to play but had his hands full trying to out manuevre some agile defenders on the Blackhawks blue line. Dylan was given the Team Player Star for his hard work at both ends of the ice. Blake Silenzi revved it up and was in top gear for this match chasing down the Thorold D and getting the puck deep it enemy territory when he had it in the neutral zone. Trent Brogan made some nice passes today and continues to keep his head up looking for team mates as well as backchecking all the way to our end. Sam Desormiers made sure to clear our zone and got the puck deep into the Thorold end when we needed a change and most importantly kept his feet moving. Desmond Leavens continues to suck up loose pucks in the neutral zone and his tenacious forechecking resulted in several close calls around the Blackhawks net. Kaden Falardeau was in it right to the end and wore his heart on his sleeve showing the never give up attitude this Coach loves to see. Kaden was given the Smooth Moves Star for some unselfish passing. Spencer Main contributed another workhorse performance and created lots of opportunities in the offensive zone...and backchecked like he was possessed once again cementing his value to this TEAM. Our defence had their hands full and then some today. Connor Wright and Eric Edwards did their best to contain some very nice passing from the Thorold forwards in our end for most of the game. Grant Sinclair and Landon Pringle also had their hands full contending with the deft puck movement in our end and quick transition through the neutral zone from the Blackhawks. Michael Snyder saw more rubber today than Indy on race day and the score could have been a lot worse if not for his glove hand and some quick feet kicking out low shots headed for the corners. Michael was give the Game Grinder Star today for his gritty work between the pipes. We learned a valuable lesson today and it was proof that we need to take care of the little things that are within our control and not worry about things that aren't. It's good to cover for TEAM mates sometimes but we can't neglect our own jobs to do it, because the snowball effect starts and its hard to stop without the puck winding up in the wrong net. This TEAM can play with any in this division if we stick to our roles and remember our assignments on every shift...mistakes are going to happen...it's expected...we just need to limit where and when they do. We had 2 good periods of hockey before the wheels came off in the 3rd...and most of the trouble started when we tried to cover for each other and forgot our own jobs...and the snowball started rolling. The score only tells a little portion of the story there were lots of bright spots in the game so shake it off and come back ready for the next one.
