Tigers Suffer First Loss After Six Straight Wins
The
Welland Buckner's Source for Sports Tigers went undefeated in six
preseason games (6-0) but felt the wrath of the West Lincoln Wrath once
the Niagara District Hockey League Minor Atom A regular season began
this past weekend. While the Tigers struck first with a goal from Kaleb
Seguin only 10 seconds in, fatigue quickly became a factor from their
third ice time in two days and they ended up on the wrong side of a 4-1
score. Jayce MacArthur netted a pair and Ryan Kelly and Bobby Haymes
also scored for West Lincoln.
Welland then evened their regular season record at 1-1 with a 7-3 win over Glanbrook. Jeffrey Bisson reccorded the hat-trick, Quinten Hemauer scored twice and Carter Kipp and Mitchell Tomaino rounded out Welland's scoring with single tallies. Caleb Huot, Oliver Young and Owen Jones answered back for Glanbrook.
Earlier in the week Welland reeled off an 11-0 exhibition victory over Niagara Falls and 10-3 and 5-4 exhibition victories over the Niagara Jr. Purple Eagles. Mitchell Tomaino potted five goals against Niagara Falls and was joined on the scoresheet by Carter Kipp and Quinten Hemauer with two each and Isaac Khan and Ty Warren with singles. The shutout was split by both Lucas Taylor and Logan Pachkowski. Tomaino then recorded another five goals against the Purple Eagles in 10-3 win, along with two from Nicholas DiPietro and one each from Khan, Jeffrey Bisson and Quinten Hemauer. In the rematch it was Tomaino, Kipp, Quinten Hemauer and Seguin who provided the Tigers offence to edge the Purple Eagles 5-4.
