Tigers Struggle To Defeat Meteors
Anyone watching today's game would never have guessed that the Fort Erie Meteors have dropped their last seven games in Niagara District Peewee Doherty action. The Meteors largely outworked and greatly outshot the Welland Telus Tigers, but late goals and spectacular goaltending allowed the visitors to skate away with a 4-2 win.

Fort Erie hemmed the Tigers into their own end for the entire opening period and well into the second. Welland would finally record their first shot on goal several minutes into the middle frame, after the Meteors had already fired fifteen shots in the direction of Lukas Biggar.

Brentin Porter would open the scoring for the home side at 12:41 of the second period on assist from Gavin Vamplew. Dayton Flatt scored an unassisted marker for the Tigers to tie the game at one apiece eight minutes later.

Max Myers would set then up Ryan Reeves with just under five minutes remaining in the second period to give Welland the lead. After Alexander McQuillan put the Tigers up by two on a nice play from Tyler Ray and Blake Turner with just under five minutes left, the Tigers penalty woes would continue to hurt them. Porter would answer with his second of the game, from Vamplew and Lucas Longboat while Fort Erie was enjoying a six-on-three advantage with their goaltender pulled with under four minutes left.

Jordan Raso would give the Tigers an insurance marker on a great feed from Dayton Flatt on a 2-on-1 opportunity with 2:35 and Welland would hold on to improve their record to 9-4-1 on the season despite being outshot 23-7 overall.

Welland was 1-for-4 with the man-advantage while the Meteors went 1-for-9.

The Garden City Falcons come to town on Friday to play the Tigers at 7pm.
