Warriors Take Season Series Lead Against Tigers
The Welland Telus Tigers dropped to 8-4-1 in Niagara District major peewee A league play and fell to third place in the standings after a dismal effort against the league-leading Stoney Creek Warriors on Saturday afternoon at Valley Park Arena.

The Tigers struggled everywhere on the ice except in goal, where Gavin Beck held them in the game for as long as he could. Welland had difficulty in the face-off circle, ceded nearly every race to the puck and failed to win most puck battles as Stoney Creek looked superior to them in nearly every way possible and held a heavy advantage in shots on goal and time of possession in the offensive zone as a result.

Stoney Creek would finally capitalize on their third of five powerplays on the day when Faysal Khaled would score the game-winning goal from Kingston Allen and Owen Hess on the powerplay with 8:10 remaining in the game. Joshua Mayich would follow up with an insurance marker from Sam Shweihat and Hess with just under five minutes to play as the Warriors skated off with a 2-0 victory on home ice. Nicolas Moryta enjoyed an easy day between the pipes as he was rarely challenged while picking up his first shutout of the season.

Welland was 0-for-3 with the extra attacker while Stoney Creek went 1-for-5.

Saturday's loss was the second in three games for the Tigers would have not looked like the same team this month despite playing what should have been an easier part of their season's schedule. Welland will look to regain their mojo against Fort Erie Sunday afternoon at the Leisureplex with a noon puck-drop.
