Tigers Move Onto Semis With Shutout Victory
Goals are still a little hard to come by for the Welland Telus Tigers but they are much harder to come by for their opponents these days. The team's gradual buy-in to playing defensive hockey is really starting to pay dividends as the Tigers punched their ticket into the Semi-finals of the Peter Mancuso November Challenge with a 3-0 win over the Humberview Huskies on Saturday.

Josh Lamb went down off the opening faceoff and scored only forty seconds into the game on an assist from Jordan Raso. While Tyler Ray would score on a helper from Alexander McQuillan later in the period and Jaxon Vanderlip would add an insurance marker in the third period off a Ryan Reeves pass this game's outcome was decided by a total team willingness to defend that early lead at all costs with a few timely saves thrown in for good measure.

While the Tigers are blessed to have two excellent netminders, Gavin Beck had a relatively calm day between the pipes as Welland greatly limited the Huskies quality scoring opportunities through controlling their penalty minutes and possession of the puck for nearly the full thirty minutes of regulation.

Welland failed to capitalize on four powerplay chances they were given but they did a masterful job of killing off the four minutes that they were assessed.

Now the Tigers have a real cat fight on their hands as they face the formidable Vaughan Panthers at 8pm in the Semi-finals on Saturday evening.
