Tigers Salvage Tie Against Falcons
As teams begin to approach the ten-game mark into the season, there seems to be a separation taking place. The same thing transpired last season in the NDHL Peewee Doherty division where you have five or six teams rising to the top half and the remainder forming a second tier in the standings. The parity among the top teams means that any simple slip-up can cost you a game, or in the case of the Welland Telus Tigers on Saturday night, at least a point in the standings.

Welland struck quickly when Josh Lamb set up Jordan Raso's goal in the first minute and the visitors would hold that advantage for the opening ten minutes of play.

They would add to their lead with Tyler Ray's goal just over thirty seconds into the second period, assisted by Blake Turner and Welland played solidly for most of the remaining fifteen minutes of the middle period. Alexander Trivieri would get the home side on the scoreboard with under a minute left in the second on assists from Simon Marshall and Dominic Olesin to cut their advantage in half.

The turning point in the game was a slow start that saw the Falcons score twice in the first two-and-a-half minutes of the final fifteen minutes of play. The Tigers were on their heels at the start of the third as Garet MacPherson (from Marshall) and Trivieri (from Nate Ditto) scored twenty-three seconds apart. Raso would respond immediately, however, netting his second of the game (unassisted) under a minute later to salvage a tie.

Both teams were not able to convert their sole opportunities with the man-advantage.

Welland, now 4-2-1 in league play, finish up a busy weekend in Niagara Falls with puck-drop at 5:45pm on Sunday afternoon.
