Tigers Return To Win Column
Submitted By Justin Disher on Friday, October 4, 2019
It's very rare that a team can surrender four powerplay goals in a game and still win, but that is exactly what the Welland Telus Tigers managed to do in Friday night's major peewee A action.

Despite a very undisciplined effort at both ends of the ice, Welland came away with an 8-5 victory thanks in large part to another excellent effort in goal by Gavin Beck and alot of good fortune. Stoney Creek outplayed the Tigers for the vast majority of the contest, but it was the Tigers who benefited from the bounces when it mattered most.

Jordan Raso collected a hat-trick while Blake Turner netted two goals on the evening. Tyler Ray, Ryan Reeves and Dayton Flatt added singles as Welland improved to 2-1 on their young season. Reeves, Alexander McQuillan, Austin Gulla and Everett Hemauer were credited with assists.

Austin Dredge scored twice for the Warriors with Brett Parker, Blake Curran and Connor Lane adding singles. Owen Hess, two assists, and Parker, Faysal Khaled, Julian Carbone and Evan Tosh each provided one helper in the losing cause.

Welland, who currently sits atop the division standings, will look for a much stronger effort on the road against the second-place Thorold Blackhawks on Monday night. Game time is 7:25pm.
