After finishing first in the round-robin with three wins and a loss the
Welland Mike Knapp Ford Tigers suffered a heartbreaking OT loss in the
Semi-final round against the Lorne Park Clarkson Wild to bow out of the
Canadian Tire Classic in Barrie.
The Tigers opened the tournament with a 4-2 win over the Orleans Blues with two goals from Thomas Myslowka and singles from Mitch Chastelet and Easton Pummell.
Pummell would then net two against Owen Sound in a 5-0 win with Jacob Shirley, Zyrik Bacon and Myslowka rounding out the scoring. Matt Rush recorded the shutout.
Lorne Park would edge Welland 1-0 in their third game despite a tremendous effort from David Legault in goal.
Welland would then get revenge on the Barrie Colts with a 6-1 thrashing. Mitch Chastelet exploded for four goals and Myslowka and Shirley added one apiece.
Lorne Park and Welland battled through 45 minutes of regulation time and 8:33 of overtime in the Semi-final before the Wild were able to solve Legault in the Welland net. Both teams would go 0-for-4 with the man-advantage, with Welland successfully killing off a 5-on-3 disadvantage for a full two minutes at the end of the second period.
Tournament host Barrie Colts would go on to corral the title with a 1-0 victory over Lorne Park in the Championship game.
