Please be advised a situation beyond anyones control has arisen in the youth arena. The City of Welland has informed us upon start-up in the youth arena, they noticed the refrigeration system had a leak in the brine line (brine line is made up of water and salt).
In an indirect refrigeration system, a liquid refrigerant absorbs heat from a secondary liquid, or brine which then pulls heat out of the rink floor as the brine is pumped through pipes embedded evenly throughout the floor. This is what helps create our ice
Unfortunately, this is a major repair and the arena will not be available until September 29th. Please rest assured the city has a contractor working long hours to get this issue fixed. In the meantime, WMHA had hoped to start its hockey program a week earlier this season, this has thrown a wrench into our plan.
We understand this is a major inconvenience for all, however we ask that you please be patient with us. We are doing our best to find ice in other centers to accommodate most, to help alleviate the loss of ice time. However, some ice times affected may need to be rescheduled to a later date. This impacts both HL and Rep teams.
