Blackhawks Slip Past Tigers
The Thorold Blackhawks and Welland Telus Tigers have both been very hard teams to score on this year so it was no surprise that Friday night's rematch between the two squads would end with a 1-0 result.

Unfortunately for the home side, it was the Blackhawks who turned the tables on Welland with the 1-0 victory, avenging an early season 4-0 loss in Thorold.

The contest remained scoreless until eight-and-a-half minutes into the third period when Connor Bolibruck netted the game-winner assisted by Lincoln Marsh-Hall.

Nicholas Sattarzadeh picked up his third shutout of the season as Thorold improved to 18-4-2. Thorold currently sits in second-place in the Peewee Doherty standings, one point behind Stoney Creek who has played three more games and who only has one game left on the season. Thorold is well-positioned to eclipse Stoney Creek as the Blackhawks have four games remaining; a home-and-home with Niagara-on-the-Lake and road games against Fort Erie and Pelham who sit at the bottom of the standings.

Welland, now 12-8-4, also has four games left on their calendar. They will travel to Niagara Falls on Sunday for a 5:45pm puck-drop and will then close out the regular season with a home game on Friday night against West Niagara at 7pm and on the road against Stoney Creek on Saturday afternoon at 4pm. A previously-scheduled game with Glancaster which was postponed due to an ice storm in November has yet to be rescheduled.

Welland and Thorold will each host their respective OMHA Playdown qualifying weekends during the Jan 31-Feb 2 weekend.
