Tigers Reach Silver Stick Semifinals
Sam Shweihat, Blake Curran, Nathan Tarka and Faysal Khaled each scored as the Stoney Creek Warriors eliminated the Welland Telus Tigers in the major peewee Semi-finals of the Pelham Regional Silver Stick tournament. Dayton Flatt recorded a powerplay goal for the lone Tigers tally.
Welland opened the round-robin on Friday with a 2-1 loss to the Warriors with Austin Dredge netting a pair and Alexander McQuillan responding with a single marker.
The Tigers would then prevail 5-3 over Tillsonburg with Tyler Ray scoring twice and Jordan Raso, Josh Lamb and Noah Bovine also finding the mesh. Welland closed out the preliminary round on Saturday morning with a 3-0 loss to the eventual tournament champion, the 5th-ranked Burlington Eagles.
Ray would score two more against Pelham in the Quarterfinals Saturday afternoon with Flatt and Raso adding single strikes. Adam Federico accounted for the lone Panthers goal.
Welland, 9-6-4 in regular-season competition, returns to league play this weekend with a home game against Pelham at 7pm on Friday and a Saturday matinee on the road against the St. Catharines Falcons at 3:30pm.
