Panthers Defeat Tigers To Advance
The 12th-ranked Vaughan Panthers made the most of their limited chances and defeated the Welland Telus Tigers 2-0 in Saturday night's Semi-final at the Peter Mancuso November Challenge.
Welland put up a good fight initially and had a few scoring opportunities of their own early on but clearly seemed to deflate a little once the Panthers struck first with two minutes remaining in the opening period by converting on a goalmouth scramble.
The Panthers added an insurance marker after a missed assignment on a defensive zone faceoff only three minutes into the second and that proved to be too much for the Tigers to overcome on this day.
Vaughan advances to the Championship game to play the Goulding Park Rangers who won their Semi-final over the Toronto East Ender Ti-Cats 6-3.
Welland now returns to league play, where they are 5-2-1, with a game in Glanbrook on Saturday against the Glancaster Bombers at 7:10pm.
