Blackhawks Down
The Welland Telus Tigers played most of the game in their end of the ice but still managed to record a 4-0 shutout over the Thorold Blackhawks thanks to a better defensive effort and some tremendous netminding from Lukas Biggar.

The Tigers began slowly as they did on Friday night at home, which resulted in a scoreless first period where they were hemmed into their own zone for nearly the entire ten minutes.

Welland picked up the intensity in the middle frame as Josh Lamb recorded his first of two to put the visitors into the lead as the game neared its midpoint. Blake Turner would unleash a rocket with two minutes remaining in the second to give the Tigers a 2-0 advantage.

Jordan Raso added some additional insurance five minutes into the third and Lamb would round out the scoring with an empty-net goal from his own end with just over ninety seconds left to play. Dayton Flatt provided two helpers on the evening.

While the Tigers controlled the scoreboard it was the Blackhawks who dominated much of the gameplay but could not solve Biggar. It was his first shutout of the regular season, and second overall, as he shared a shutout with Gavin Beck in exhibition play against Niagara Falls last month.

Thorold, who suffered their first loss of the season tonight, went 0-4 with the man-advantage while Welland was 1-for-2.

Welland, now 3-1, hosts Port Colborne (0-1) on Friday night at 7pm.
