Stars Hold Serve At Home, Series Swings Back To Welland
The Welland 91.7 Giant FM/Country 89 Tigers turned in another terrific effort but could not catch a break against the St. Thomas Stars, falling to them 3-0 in game two of the OMHA Quarterfinals on Saturday in the Railway City.

Tayven Barned came up big for St. Thomas once again despite the excellent extra attention paid to him all game. Barned took advantage of a fortuitous bounce to score his first of a pair on the day while short-handed in the second period and deposited his second of the game into the empty-net as Welland had pulled their goaltender in favour of the extra attacker with a minute remaining. William Wright would add a second-empty net goal with twenty-two seconds to go in the third as St. Thomas took both games at home to lead the series four points to zero.

Referees whistles were once again infrequent with St. Thomas only penalized once and Welland twice. Although it appeared more infractions could have been called on both sides, the officials tried to let the game be decided at even-strength and were largely a non-factor in the final outcome.

The series now swings back to Niagara for the next three games. Game three is scheduled for 7pm on Friday night as Welland looks to claw their way back into the six-point series. While not managing many shots, Welland controlled much more of the play and spent alot more time in the offensive zone than they did in Friday's opener and can certainly build on that heading into next weekend's games.
