Tigers Burned By Barned
The Welland 91.7 Giant FM/Country 89 Tigers battled with the top-ranked St. Thomas Stars for two periods but in the end were burned by Tayven Barned, who assisted on the Stars first goal and completed a natural hat-trick accounting for their next three in a 4-0 victory to open the OMHA Quarterfinal six-point series.

It was a very high-tempo, exciting game that saw the teams evenly-matched and kept scoreless through the first twenty-five minutes of action. Cooper Henderson would break the stalemate one-minute twenty four seconds into the final frame, finally solving Riley Caron, who played well and turned aside the early onslaught from the home side. Barned would score with 7:12, 4:21 and 0:45 remaining (into the empty net) to give the home side a two-point lead in the series. Henderson, Jaden Van De Ven and Kailer Jenney picked up the assists on the evening.

The Tigers were not without their scoring chances but unfortunately they did not get the right bounces and St. Thomas capitalized when their few opportunities to score presented themselves. The refs put the whistles away in this one, only calling six minutes of infractions total, four minutes to Welland and two to St. Thomas with neither side taking advantage.

Welland will look to even things up tomorrow at 4:15pm and send the series back to Welland with one-win apiece.
