Putting Business Before Pleasure
Eight-Time Superbowl Champion coach Bill Belichick has four simple rules for success: 1. Do Your Job. 2. Be attentive 3. Pay attention to details and 4. Put the team first. The Welland 91.7 Giant FM/Country 89 Tigers followed all of this advice to a tee during this weekend's "business trip" at the Niagara District OMHA Preliminaries and it resulted in running the table with a perfect 6-0 record and the team is now advancing to play the Garden City Falcons in a four-point series this week to determine the Niagara District representative in the OMHA Quarterfinals.

In Sunday's semi-final the Tigers defeated the Glancaster Bombers 6-0, allowing the visitors only twelve shots on goal over forty-minutes. Denton Helder recorded his first goal of the season, Colby Franchetti netted three more and Carson McComber and Miller Miotto rounded out the offence as the Tigers put business before pleasure and went to work.

Welland led 2-0 after the first but pulled away over the latter two periods when Glancaster imploded and amassed a total of 54 minutes in penalties. The Tigers largely refused to retaliate and instead took advantage by scoring four times with the extra attacker. Jordan Wright and Helder had two assists each and Miotto, Hudson Kipp, Jared Duerden, Jonah Bello, and Franchetti also picked up helpers. Braxton Fleguel rang up his third shutout of the weekend and is now tied with Tim Dolan of Dunnville with a league's-best eight in total.

Over the course of the three days Welland outscored the opposition 31-1, with five shutouts.

The schedule for the Garden City-Welland series has yet to be determined but the series must be completed by Feb 9th.
