Tigers Shake Off Slow Start, Defeat Warriors
Things got off to a slow start for the Welland 91.7 Giant FM/Country 89 Tigers on Wednesday night in Stoney Creek but a strong second half of play saw them skate away with a 5-1 victory over the Stoney Creek Warriors in minor peewee A divisional play.

Henry Allen would get the home side on the scoreboard first, assisted by Hayden Purnell, giving the Warriors a 1-0 lead through the first ten minutes of action.

Colby Franchetti responded with his first of two on the night four minutes into the second period to tie the game and Matteo Mete deposited the eventual game-winning tally two-and-a-half minutes later as the Tigers held a 2-1 advantage after two periods.

Tanner Cutler, Tyler Laszlo and Franchetti rounded out the offence with third period markers as Welland improved to 21-0-3 in league play.

The Tigers close out the regular season with a busy week ahead. A road contest with West Niagara is scheduled for Tuesday night at 7:10pm in Grimsby followed by a home tilt against Glancaster one night later at 7:20pm. Welland then travels to Niagara Falls on Saturday for 5:15pm and returns to Valley Park on Sunday afternoon for a 2:30pm meeting with the Stoney Creek Minor AE Warriors.

OMHA Playdown weekend is scheduled for January 31-February 2nd in Welland with the Tigers scheduled to play at 1pm and 6pm Friday, 11:30am and 4:30pm on Saturday and 11:30am Sunday. Re-seeding will take place after the round-robin and Semi-final games will be played on Sunday at 4:30pm and 6pm. The two teams advancing from the Semi-finals on Sunday will then play a four-point series in the ensuing week to determine the Niagara Region's representative in the OMHA Quarterfinals.
