Tigers Ring In New Year With Win #20
Submitted By Justin Disher on Saturday, January 4, 2020
Riley Caron earned his third shutout of the season as the Welland 91.7 Giant FM/Country 89 Tigers outdueled their hometown rivals and namesakes in divisional play on Saturday afternoon at the Welland Arena to record their twentieth victory in regular season competition.

Brody Marton was exceptional between the pipes for the AE Tigers keeping things close until the game's late stages.

Colby Franchetti would finally open the scoring for the "visiting" Tigers with twelve seconds remaining in the opening period and Chace Buti would score four-and-a-half minutes into the second as the minor peewee A squad managed to hold that slim lead through the initial thirty minutes of action. The turning point in the game seemed to be the shorthanded marker from Carson McComber with just under ten minutes left in the third and the visitors held the momentum the rest of the contest to close out the game. Julian Belcastro would add a tally five minutes later and Matteo Mete, Miller Miotto and Franchetti would round out the scoring with goals in the final three minutes.

Thanks to some key stops from Caron, the AE Tigers were not able to capitalize on their four opportunities with the extra attacker. The 91.7 Giant FM/Country 89 Tigers had numerous quality scoring chances during their lone powerplay but were not able to solve Marton.

Next up for the Tigers, now 20-0-2, is a 7:20pm tilt at home on Wednesday versus the Garden City Falcons.
