Weekend Warriors
It was not their best performance of the weekend, however, the Welland 91.7 Giant FM/Country 89 Tigers sleepwalked past the Russell Warriors 1-0 early Saturday morning to punch their ticket into the Semi-finals at the Northumberland Silver Stick Regionals in Cobourg.

Jonah Bello scored with thirty seconds remaining in a penalty-filled first period as the teams were skating 4-on-4 and Riley Caron slammed the door the rest of the way to earn the shutout victory.

The Tigers, now 3-0 in pool play, should finish first overall and play the fourth-seed, but with several teams playing two games today there are still a lot of unknowns given the unconventional tournament schedule and format.

Both Semi-final games will take place at 8am Sunday and Welland will look to replicate their excellent performances on Friday, where they skated and moved the puck extremely well, showed tremendous discipline, and trusted their teammates in all areas of the ice and supported them properly. Much of that was lacking in this morning's game.

Welland was assessed 10 minutes in penalties to Russell's 12 minutes of infractions but neither team took advantage of the extra skater.
