Fleguel Records First Regular Season Shutout
The Welland 91.7 Giant FM/Country 89 Tigers improved to 9-0-2 in minor peewee action by defeating the Merritton minor peewee AE Bulldogs on Wednesday night in Welland.
Colby Franchetti, Tyler Laszlo and Julian Belcastro netted two goals apiece and Matteo Mete, Chace Buti, Miller Miotto and Tanner Cutler each scored once as Welland outpaced the Merritton Bulldogs in their final tune-up for the Boston Pizza Cup tournament in St. Thomas this weekend.
Braxton Fleguel earned his first regular season shutout for the Tigers who are now unbeaten in their last fifteen games.
Welland will face some extremely tough competition this weekend with an opening game on Friday against the St. Clair Shores Saints (ranked 23rd), followed by the top-ranked St. Thomas Stars that evening. Saturday's round-robin matchups include a game against Owen Sound (ranked 7th) and the Burlington Jr. Cougars (ranked 51st). Welland currently sits 22nd in the rankings.
The Tigers return to league play at home next Wednesday against the Dunnville AE Mudcats with a 7:20pm puck-drop.
