Tigers Ground Flyers To Extend Unbeaten Streak to 17
The Welland Niagara Street Pharmacy/Gene's Skate Sharpening Tigers rung in the new year on the same winning note as they ended 2018, outpacing the Niagara Falls Flyers 5-3 to extend their undefeated streak to seventeen games.
Matteo Mete led the way with a pair of goals for the Tigers and Townes Bestward, Julian Belcastro and Brennen Hagar rounded out the scoring as Welland completed the regular season sweep of the Flyers defeating them all three times they faced them in league play.
Brody-Biamonte-Boyd, Lucas Dilibero and Oliver Porco answered back for the Flyers, who have greatly improved as the season has progressed. With five one-goal losses and four regular season ties (and a tournament tie against Welland in the Pelham Silver Stick Regional just over a week ago) victory against this hard-working squad is anything but assured as the red-hot Tigers found out on Monday night, having to erase two one-goal deficits to secure the victory.
Welland, now 15-2-3 in Atom Doherty action, travels to Port Colborne on Thursday night to face off against the Sailors for the final time this year. Game time is 7:10pm at the Vale Health and Wellness Centre.
