Tigers Extend Undefeated Streak to Twelve Games
The Welland Niagara Street Pharmacy/Gene's Skate Sharpening Tigers extended their undefeated streak to twelve games by skating to a 4-2 win over Lincoln and a 1-1 tie with St. Mary's Rock in day one action at the Pelham Regional Silver Stick Championships.
Matteo Mete, Julian Belcastro, Tanner Cutler and Carter Kelly each scored as Welland doubled up the Blades. Ty Fielding and Lucas Ivezich replied for Lincoln.
In the matinee contest, Welland came just under four minutes shy from shutting out the powerful St. Mary's Rock team that has only lost three regular season and one tournament game all season. Both teams received goals from players wearing the number 10 jersey as Julian Belcastro tallied for Welland and Jared Ballantyne netted the equalizer for the Rock.
Welland concludes the round-robin portion of the tournament with an 8:30am tilt in Pelham against the Niagara Falls Flyers on Friday morning. Quarterfinal matches will be played Friday afternoon in Port Colborne, Welland and Pelham once all teams are re-seeded based on the results of the first three games.
