Tigers Earning Passing Grade In League Play
Winning has become no passing fancy for the Welland Niagara Street Pharmacy/Gene's Skate Sharpening Tigers who are currently riding an undefeated streak of nine games in Niagara District Atom Doherty league play. Thanks to some fancy passing tonight, the Tigers took the wind of out of the Port Colborne Sailors handing them a 4-1 loss and snapping their three game win streak and in the process claiming sole possession of first place in the league standings.

Carson McComber kickstarted things for the Tigers by finding the back of the net only one minute twenty three seconds after the opening draw on a great pass from behind the net from the stick of Mason Risto. Colby Franchetti would extend the lead for the home side to two with just under two minutes to play in the opening period with his first of two goals on the night, assisted by Tanner Cutler.

After Port Colborne halved the Tigers lead on a goal from Brayden Dennis with 5:08 remaining in the final frame, Franchetti restored the two goal lead with 2:55 to play on helpers from Julian Belcastro and Jordan Wright. Tanner Culter closed out the scoring with 2:21 left on the clock with assists going to linemates Belcastro and Franchetti.

Welland now sits atop the standings with 29 points and an impressive 28 goals against, seven goals less than anyone else in the division. Welland puts its 13-2-3 record up against the 11-5-3 Stoney Creek Warriors on the road Sunday at 2:45pm.
