Tigers Sharper Than Blades
Tanner Cutler scored twice and Colby Franchetti once as the Welland Niagara Street Pharmacy/Gene's Skate Sharpening Tigers proved to be too sharp for the Lincoln Blades in Niagara District Major Atom action in Welland on Monday night.
Cutler opened the scoring three minutes into the second on the powerplay and Colby Franchetti tipped in Jonah Bello's blast from the point with Hudson Kipp picking up the second assist with eighteen seconds remaining in the period to give the Tigers a cushion, but it wasn't really needed as the team played an excellent defensive game throughout severely limiting Lincoln's quality scoring chances. Cutler's second of the game with seven minutes remaining in the third period on excellent passing from Julian Belcastro and Colby Franchetti was the icing on the cake that allowed Welland to improve to 8-2-3 in league play and climb into second place in the division.
Evan Corriveau stopped all 13 shots he faced to earn his second shutout of the season.
Welland travels to Fort Erie on Friday night to battle the 5-5-2 Meteors at 7pm.
