Tigers Advance to OMHA Quarter Finals!
The Welland Novice "A" Tigers completed there Niagara OMHA Preliminary Playoff tournament this past weekend. The Tigers finished with a record of 5-1-0, and have advanced to the next round of the OMHA Playoffs

The Tigers will now enter a 3 out of 5 series against the Glanbrook Rangers to see who advances to the next round of the playoffs. The winner of this series will advance to the OMHA semi finals to play the winner of New Hamburg Huskies and Stoney Creek Warriors.

The Tigers played a total of 6 games over two weekends against the other teams in the Niagara Novice West A group. Every team played each other one time over the two weekends and then were re-ranked with the top 4 teams advancing to the next round.

The Tigers opened the playoffs with a dominant performance over The Glanbrook Rangers. After a slow start the Tigers found the back of the net several times. The Tigers finished off several good passing plays and managed to pot home 7 goals on way to a 7-0 win in game 1.

The second game, The Tigers faced the New Hamburg Huskies. Although New Hamburg didn't play in the Niagara loop during the year, they are competing in this areas OMHA playoffs. The Huskies finished 1st in their division playing out of the Tri-County League this season.  The Tigers open the scoring first off the opening shift. The majority of the game was back and forth with each team trading goals. The Tigers took a 3-2 lead late into the third period. The Tigers fell apart late in the game and allowed two late Huskie goals, which saw New Hamburg take the game with a 4-3 win.

In Game 3 the Tigers rebounded for a big win against the Garden City Falcons, burying a total of eight goals, and only allowing one good for a 8-1 win.

On the second weekend of the tournament the Tigers came to play and filled the net early and often. The Tigers saw themselves with three more lopsided victories beating the Stoney Creek Warriors 8-0, the Niagara Falls Flyers 8-2 and the Grimsby Kings 7-3, good enough for the second seed in the re-ranking.

The Tigers have now advanced to face the Glanbrook Rangers in a best 3 out of 5 series (first to 6 points), after Glanbrook came out as the 3rd seed with a record of 4-2-0.

The Tigers begin their next round on February 14th in Glanbrook, before returning home for games 2 and 3 in Welland on February 16th and 18th.
