North American International Silverstick Champs
On January 11, 2018 the Welland Atom Minor A Tigers travelled to Newmarket to begin their quest for the North American International Silverstick Championship.

The Tigers opened pool play with a 6-1 win over Bradford Bulldogs. On Friday morning the Tigers won convincingly 11-0 over Gross Pointe Bulldogs. Riley Caron earned the shutout with some big saves. Friday afternoon the Tigers faced a big Innisfil team and scored 5 unanswered goals in the third period to come away with a 7-1 win. This improved their  record to 3-0 and earned them first place in Pool B and a spot in the semi final. The Tigers ended pool play Saturday morning and lost 6-3 to a talented Kanata Blazers team. In the semi final game the Tigers prevailed with a hard fought battle over Whitby Wildcats. The final score was 2-1. The defence shut down a big and aggressive team. This set up a rematch for the Tigers with the undefeated Erie North Shores who had beaten them in the Silverstick Regional Finals. This was a back and forth battle that ended with a 4-3 win for the Tigers. Evan Corriveau made an unbelievable glove save to preserve the win in the third period.
This team played amazing all weekend. The Tigers had balanced scoring, great defense and amazing goaltending by Caron and Corriveau. The entire coaching staff is proud of the team and how far the players have come this year.  We are all excited to continue this amazing journey into our playoff run. Great job TIGERS.
