Tigers Crowned Tyke MD Champions
The Welland Mike Knapp Tigers finished off their season by being crowned NDHL Tyke MD Champions.
The Tigers won their best 2 out of 3 series in 2 straight games over the Grimsby Kings. The Tigers took game 1 in convincing fashion with a 7-1 result. The Tigers followed up their performance in game two with a dominant 6-2 victory.
The Tigers Finished the Regular season with a Perfect 23-0 record, and followed that up in the playoffs going a Perfect 8-0 on their way to the NDHL Tyke MD Title.
The coaches are very proud of the entire team for their dedication and efforts throughout the entire year. This truly was a year for everyone to remember. Well done Boys!!!!
The Tigers began their playoff run in a tournament style weekend with the other teams in the league. The Tigers were forced to play 6 games in 2 days.
The Tigers opened up the weekend with 3 wins on the opening day of the playoffs. The Tigers won game 1 over the Glanbrook Rangers 6-1, followed up with a dominant performance in game 2, resulting in a 14-0 win over the Garden City Falcons. The Tigers finished off day 1 of the playoffs with a 8-2 victory over the rival Grimsby Kings.
The Tigers went into day 2 having to face all 3 teams once again. The Tigers once again were successful on beating the Glanbrook Rangers, this time by a score of 4-1. The Tigers followed that game with another dominant victory over the Garden City Falcons 19-0. The Tigers played one of their better games in the 6th and final game of the weekend, beating the Grimsby Kings once again in a close, hard fought battle with a 6-4 victory.
The Tigers advanced to the Championship series for the NDHL Tyke MD Gold medal against the Grimsby Kings.
In Game 1, the Tigers came out slow, and were caught off guard by a strong Grimsby attack. The Tigers managed to skate to a 1-1 tie after the first period. The Tigers picked up the pace of play in the second and third period and fired several shots at the Grimsby net scoring 6 unanswered goals, on route to a 7-1 final.
The Tigers played a much more balanced game in game 2 of the series. The Tigers once again fired several shots at the Kings net for majority of the game. The Tigers also played one of the their best defensive games of the year, in shutting down a strong Grimsby attack.
The Tigers managed to score 6 goals, on route to a 6-2 final.
The Tigers were crowned 2017/2018 NDHL Tyke MD Champions.
The Tigers finished their season with a perfect 23-0 record in the regular season. The tigers also never lost a game in the playoffs, finishing with a perfect 8-0 record.
In the end, including regular season, tournament and playoffs, the Tigers finished with an astonishing record of 38-3-0
The coaching staff is extremely proud of all 17 players for their hard work and dedication this year. The coaching staff would also like to thank all of the parents for their ongoing and continuous support.
This season was truly one those that were involved will never forget.
