NOTL Christmas Classic Champions
The Welland Mike Knapp Tigers traveled to Niagara on the Lake this past week to compete in the NOTL Christmas Classic Hockey Tournament. The Tigers went a perfect 5-0 on the tournament. The Tigers beat Grimsby 3-0, East York 3-2 and Caledon 21-0 in the round robin. The Tigers once again faced Grimsby in the Semi-finals, beating the rival Kings 8-0. The Tigers faced off against East York once again in the finals and won in close game. The Tigers held on to a 2-1 lead, which was good enough to win the Championship. The coaches are very proud of all the players for their hard work and efforts this week.

In the opening game of the tournament, the Tigers faced rival Grimsby Kings. The game was a hard fought battle from both sides, with the Tigers scoring 3 goals, and both goalies sharing in the shutout effort. The Tigers faced a strong East York team in the second round robin game. The game was back and forth, with East York taking a 1-0 lead as well as a 2-1 lead. The Tigers battled back to tie the game at 2-2. The Tigers won the game in dramatic fashion scoring with 4.8 seconds left to take the 3-2 lead, which held up as the final result. The Tigers dominated their third round robin game against Caledon, winning by a whopping 21-0.

The Tigers once again faced Grimsby in the semi finals, this time playing a much more offensive game. The Tigers took it to Grimsby from the opening faceoff, winning decisively 8-0, on way to the finals.

In the Finals the Tigers once again took on the East York Bulldogs. Much like the previous matchup, this game was a close affair. The Tigers fell behind 1-0 early in the game, but managed to quickly respond and notch the game at 1-1. Shortly after tying the game at 1-1, the Tigers notched a second goal to take a 2-1 lead. The 2-1 lead would hold up, as the Tigers held off a late attack by the Bulldogs to win the Championship with a 2-1 result.

Congratulations to all the players for their achievements. The win was a result of a total team effort from all players.
