Introduction Emails sent out
Hello,

We have finalized scheduling and registration numbers for the 2017/2018 Jr.Tigers Initiation Program.    Let me be the first to welcome everyone to another great season with Welland Minor Hockey.

An email was sent out a few weeks back requesting pail donations and volunteers.  The response was overwhelming!  Thank you to all that stepped up to assist.

It was mentioned that there would be a follow up email.  Please read and review all the information below.

 1. An insight to the new program format that is part of Hockey Canada’s fun & development restructuring
This year Hockey Canada has mandated a change to the previously known program called “Tyke” .  The program is now referred to as Initiation (IP).  This new structure introduces children to the game of hockey with an emphasis of fun learning and interaction.   With this new structure, the program will offer 9 weeks of training camp leading into half ice practices and half ice games.   Teams will be formed at the end of training camp and the remainder of the season will practices on Saturdays and games on Sundays.

2. Scheduling
Week 1 to Week 9 is Hockey Training Camp  (September 23rd 2017 to November 19th 2017) at this time your child will be on the ice for one hour per week.  Week 10 on to March is Jr. Tigers Regular Season (November 25th 2017 to March 2018)  your child will receive 1 practice every Saturday morning and 1 game every Sunday.  At this time games will be played on a half ice surface.

 3. Equipment Requirements
   - All players must be in full equipment.  This includes neck guards and mouth guards.
   -Helmets must be CSA Approved.
-Please put white tape on the front of the helmet and write your child’s name on the tape with black marker.           This helps the volunteers learn their names fast and help build a teaching relationship early in the                         program.
    - Please provide your child with a labeled water bottle.
    -  Please have a jersey and socks for your child during the hockey training camp.
    - WMHA jerseys and socks will be distributed after the 9 week program when teams are allocated.   If any new          hockey players are in need of a jersey, see a volunteer this weekend.  We have a few spares left from last          year.

 4.Other Items
-Subscribe to Jr.Tigers IP Program on the WMHA website.  News Feed and Scheduling will be posted online!                         https://wellandminorhockey.com/Leagues/1105/
-Please arrive a minimum 30 minutes prior to any game or practice. This allows us to prepare games sheets          correctly and prepare accordingly
-Do not drop your child off and leave the rink without letting a parent rep or coach know.  If your child become     sick or injured we need to continue with the lesson/game with the rest of the group
-During practice if your child requires attention, one of the coaching staff will skate towards the door/bench     with your child and have their hand in the air.  This means we require your assistance and ask you come to us     immediately.

Players registered born in 2004 and younger are required to have at least one parent complete the Parent Respect in Sports course.  The course is a requirement and if your new to hockey you will be required to obtain this one time online training. Many families have already obtained this in previous years.  If you have any questions, feel free to contact me.

We look forward to a great season together with all the Jr. Tiger IP players.
