WMHA Response to OHF Open Borders Announcement Body:WMHA Members,On December 17, 2024, the Ontario Hockey Federation (OHF) announced significant changes to the Player Movement Regulations within Minor Hockey. Beginning with the 2025-2026 season, residency regulations will be removed for players in the U10 age group and above, at all levels (Local League, BB, A, AA, AAA).The Welland Minor Hockey Association acknowledges both the opportunities and challenges these changes bring. Efforts are underway to expand our high-performance program while maintaining our tradition of developing strong teams, like the 2024 OMHA Champion U18A and U11A, and hockey players who go on to successful NCAA, OHL, and NHL careers, as many Tigers have throughout the years. For developing players, Welland Minor Hockey will continue to enhance our IP program, focusing on developing young athletes and offering high-quality, fun programming for local league players of all ages. Our current players will benefit from expanded programming both on and off the ice, while new players will recognize our association as a premier hockey destination and community. While these changes may seem daunting, Welland Minor Hockey sees them as an exciting opportunity for Ontario hockey, providing players with more choices. As an OHF member, we are embracing this challenge to grow our program within the new framework. For more information on the changes announced by the OHF, please see the link below:
